There is a common misconception between reinforcement and bribery. It’s important to know the difference, not only because you don’t want to unintentionally utilize bribery, but you also want to be able to explain this distinction to others. Reinforcement occurs after a behavior to increase the chance of that behavior happening again. Bribery typically occurs before a behavior in hopes of that behavior occurring. Bribery is often utilized to get a problem behavior to stop and get a positive behavior to start.
